UVA Health

Provides Mental healthcare services, fertility support, and substance abuse treatment.

Equality Virginia – Richmond

Helps provide services such as housing, food, legal, health, and etc

LGBT Life Center – Norfolk

Provides housing, HIV services, counseling services, support groups, senior services, health and testing, and ride share services.

Health Brigade – Richmond

Offers primary care and mental health care. MUST: not have medical insurance or be eligible for Medicare parts B, C, and D, Medicaid, or veterans’ benefits, income is between 139-200% of federal poverty line.

Food Resources

Food Banks of Southern Virginia and the Eastern Shore

Provides hunger prevention programs in the cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, as well as Virginia Beach. Has food bank resources, resources on how to apply for SNAP, and directory of Virginia food banks.

Virginia Peninsula Food Bank - Hampton, VA

Mobile pantry food bank, drive thru food distributions are on a first come first serve basis. *PLEASE check online for calendars/flyers for upcoming food drives. People/families are served once a month.

Blue Ridge Area Food Bank

Financial Resources

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

Ran by the Department of Social Services, or DSS. The program, which can be applied to online or locally, is designed to provide temporary financial help to low-income families or single people who are experiencing financial hardship.

Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits

SSDI is one of the main federal grant programs. It will help people with a disability (whether physical, emotional, or mental) that will be 12 months or longer, or that results in death.

SNAP Food Stamp Program

Pays for the monthly food budgets of low-income and working poor households. The government program will help assure a nutritionally adequate diet for the Virginia resident. Eligibility is based on assets, resources, income and non-financial criteria.

2-1-1 Virginia

A 24 hour informational and referral service that provides access to needs such as confidential crisis, disaster assistance, payment assistance and more.

Insurance Resources

Virginia Medicaid

Medicaid is the state and Federal partnership that provides medical coverage to eligible needy persons. There is no enrollment fee or premium for Medicaid coverage if you are eligible. Low co-pays are charged for some Medicaid services.

Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE)

A free or affordable insurance plan (as well as medical care) that helps the elderly and sick stay in their own home vs. moving to assisted living.

Family Access to Medical Insurance Security Plan Select (FAMIS)

FAMIS, or Family Access to Medical Insurance Security Plan, is Virginia's health insurance program for children. It makes health care affordable for children of families who qualify. FAMIS covers all the medical care that growing children need to stay healthy. It also covers medical care if they get sick or hurt.
